Each year, countless wild animals are killed, injured and orphaned across Australia as a direct consequence of human activities or natural disasters. Firefighters are all too aware of the impact of fires and other emergencies they attend on the animal population. And that extends to domesticated animals as well as those in the bush.
However, it is not-for-profit and volunteer based organisations that lead the charge to protect wildlife across Australia. Many provide around-the-clock rescue, rehabilitation and information services.
